Assignment Name: Data Entry and Database Preparation for Supporting the Land Mutation Research Project

Country: Bangladesh

Client Name: Access to Information (a2i) Programme, Prime Minister’s Office, Government of Bangladesh

DM WATCH was engaged in supporting the Land Mutation Research Project aimed at collecting and processing data from 46 Upazillas to improve land mutation records in Bangladesh. The project, funded by the Government of Bangladesh, was crucial for updating and maintaining accurate land records, which is essential for effective land management and dispute resolution. DM WATCH’s role included designing the project plan, preparing data templates, conducting data entry, coding, cleaning, and ensuring the accuracy of the collected data through double entry and data matching techniques.

Template Preparation:

  • Designed two distinct data templates for inputting the collected data, tailored to accommodate the different data tables, variables, and sample sizes required for the project. Each template was structured to optimize data entry processes and ensure compatibility with the overall data management system.

Data Entry and Management:

  • Managed the entry of approximately 155,000 data into the prepared templates. Type A involved entering about 25,000 datasets, while Type B involved around 130,000 data. Ensured data was entered in the required formats and according to the project specifications.

Data Coding and Cleaning:

  • Conducted thorough data coding and cleaning to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the information entered. This process was crucial for eliminating errors and inconsistencies in the data set before analysis.

Double Entry System:

  • Implemented a double entry system as a measure to enhance data accuracy. This involved re-entering the data to compare it with the original entries and rectify any discrepancies found during this verification process.

Data Matching, Correction, and Updating:

  • Performed data matching tasks to align and correlate data across different sources, making necessary corrections and updates to ensure the data reflected current and accurate information.

Training and Capacity Building:

  • Conducted training sessions for selected participants to familiarize them with the project objectives, data entry processes, and use of the data templates. This helped in maintaining a high standard of data quality and project execution.

Project Administration and Reporting:

  • Managed the overall project administration, including monitoring the progress of data collection and entry, ensuring adherence to the project timeline, and budget. Prepared and presented the project completion report, which included detailed analysis and recommendations, along with the draft and final reports for project officials and stakeholders.
