In-depth monitoring on the project titled “Secondary Education Sector Investment Program (SESIP)

The objective of the study was to conduct in-depth monitoring of the project “Secondary Education Sector Investment Program” in all aspects in collaboration with project personnel and all potential stakeholders. The in-depth monitoring was carried out to evaluate the scenario and progress in comparison to the project objectives, to increase the stability of the facilities created after the completion of the project, providing feedback with the analysis of the strength and weakness of the project and deficiencies and challenges in the way of completion of the project. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected for this study. Probability sampling technique was used for quantitative data collection whereas qualitative data were collected by Non-probability sampling technique. The study conducted a survey with 640 students from government secondary high schools, MPO secondary high schools, Alia Madrashas and vocational high schools in selected 8 districts. Study team interviewed 36 local and national level stakeholders and conducted 32 FGD with teachers, parents and SMC members. The study revealed that there had been reasonable improvements in infrastructural facilities. The ICT enabled teaching and learning had been increased. Science labs had been installed to improve the quality of teaching and learning as well as to increase the interest among students to study science. The study recommended setting up Teachers Resource Center at upazila level, increasing the number of female teachers, and taking necessary steps quickly to close the gaps in the secondary education system in terms of infrastructure, equipment and resources for qualified teachers.
