The Child Friendly Local Governance (CFLG) project was a collaborative initiative led by Breaking the Silence and the Bangladesh National Women’s Lawyers Association (BNWLA), with funding from Save the Children Denmark. The project was implemented in one Municipal Corporation in Manikganj district, Dhaka Division, and Satkhira district. The main goal was to enhance the delivery of services and accountability of local governments towards children, ensuring a supportive environment where children’s rights are recognized and upheld. The project involved comprehensive data collection from 8000 households, creation of a children-specific database, and interaction with community-based organizations to engage and gather data effectively.
DM WATCH conducted the following activities:
Project Planning and Execution:
- Formulated the entire project plan in alignment with the objectives laid out by the funding and partner organizations. The plan included detailed methodologies for data collection and analysis to ensure that the project outcomes would effectively contribute to improving local governance with respect to children’s services and rights.
Stakeholder Engagement and Training:
- Coordinated with local community-based organizations to facilitate data collection, signing MoUs to ensure cooperation and effective participation. Conducted extensive training sessions for field staff (arrange by the implementing organizations) to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge for gathering accurate and relevant data.
Data Collection and Analysis:
- Managed the administration and oversight of data collection processes involving 8000 households, utilizing a structured questionnaire to gather comprehensive information on children’s services. Employed advanced statistical methods such as regression analysis, t-tests, and ANOVA to analyze the data, ensuring robustness in findings and recommendations.
Qualitative Research and Documentation:
- Organized workshops with children’s groups and clubs to understand the impact of local governance practices on their daily lives. Conducted case studies to document individual experiences and hosted community discussions to gather broader societal perspectives.
Reporting and Dissemination:
- Synthesized findings into a coherent final report, which included detailed analysis and recommendations for improving child-focused services within local governance. Designed and facilitated a dissemination workshop to share the results with project stakeholders, enhancing the project’s visibility and impact.
Creative Outputs:
- Developed photo stories that captured the essence of the project’s impact on children’s lives, providing a powerful visual complement to the textual data and findings.
