DM WATCH developed and designed the research plan based on London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine’s social research toolkit which comprises a range of participatory rural appraisal tools to get insights on the following target behaviors: Increase handwashing with soap after defecating and before touching food, Increase use of a clean latrine at all times. Enhance the perceived confidence of adolescent girls in the management of their menstrual hygiene.

During March 2018 to July 2018; Bhola, Thakurgaon, Kurigram, and Sirajganj districts of Bangladesh were the targeted area for behavior change programs.  A modified ecological model was used to collect the required information to dig insights. DM WATCH followed participatory approaches to conduct formative research. Transect walk followed by structured site observation, WASH Resource mapping, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), Routine Scripting, Behavioral Trial, Social Network Mapping, Gender and WASH Monitoring tool were performed to disseminate information and create awareness regarding WASH behaviors.
