Project Description:

This is an ongoing study started since November 2019. The main objective of the study is to scan the demand for public toilets in Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) considering the current and future needs in terms of population, locations, and availability of space. It will also analyze the current state of the existing coverage of public toilets in the city. The study was initially designed for zone 1 and 4 of GCC, later has been extended for all the 8 zones of GCC area. In the beginning, a workshop has been arranged in each ward of GCC to identify the public places. Based on the nature of this study, a questionnaire and user-commuter survey has been conducted at the public places in GCC to understand the existing situation and demand for public toilets using ArcGIS. Besides, focus group discussion between different users of public toilets and key informant interviews at the local level have been conducted. Moreover, physical observation has been carried out at the existing public toilets in GCC area to understand the current situation.
The expected outcome of the study will reveal the status of existing public places in GCC and also give a clear idea about the demand for public toilets in GCC.
